Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is a recognized trauma treatment that helps people heal from distressing experiences by using guided eye movements (or other bilateral stimulation like tapping) while focusing on traumatic memories, allowing the brain to reprocess them so they become less upsetting and disruptive. Developed by Francine Shapiro, it's effective for PTSD, anxiety, phobias, and other issues, reducing the intensity of memories without requiring lengthy detailed retelling, and is recommended by major health organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO) and the American Psychiatric Association (APA).
